Relationship between curing traits of and main chemical components in flue-cured tobacco leaves

Tobacco flue-curing traits, i.e. easy curing, curing resistance and flue-curing characteristics are important and special for fluecured tobacco. To explore relationship between them and main chemical components, 126 populations were investigated for their yellowing index(YI), browning index(BI), flue-curing score, and contents of main chemical components including nicotine, total sugar, reducing sugar, total nitrogen, potassium(K2O), and chlorine(Cl). Simple correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis, canonical correlation analysis and path analysis were conducted. Results indicated that correlations between flue-curing traits and specific chemical components were different, and there existed highest correlation between flue-curing traits and total nitrogen or nicotine, relatively high correlation between flue-curing traits and total sugar or reducing sugar, and no obvious correlation between flue-curing traits and potassium or chlorine.
