Isolation and identification of the chemical constituents of Opuntia dillenii Haw.

Opuntia dillenii Haw.is a cactus that grows mainly in the south of China.The stem of this plant was used as a folk medicine for treatment of diabetes,gastric ulcer,inflammatory and several other diseases.For the inflammatory application of Opuntia dillenii Haw.,its chemical constituents were isolated and purified by column chromatography on silica gel,Sephadex LH-20 and ODS.Nineteen compounds were isolated and identified as kaempferol(1),3-O-methyl kaempferol(2),quercetin(3),3-O-methyl quercetin(4),aromadendrin(5),3-O-methyl quercetin-3′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(6),kaempferol-7-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranoside(7),rutin(8),2-hydroxydiplopterol(9),aurantiamide acetate(10),(-)-neoechinulin A(11),echinuline(12),spicatolignan B(13),liriodendrin(14),(-)-lyoniresinol(15),secoisolariciresinol(16),methyl p-hydroxybenzoate(17),p-hydroxybenzoic acid(18),E-octadecyl caffeate(19).Compounds 6,7,9-16,19 were isolated from Opuntia genus for the first time.
