Discussion on Alleviating the Serious Shortage of Water Resource in Northern Cities of China and Developing the Water-Saving Garden and Green Spaces

Due to the serious shortage of water resources in the northern cities of China, the irrigation water amount used for city green spaces has increased year by year. Aiming at the severe contradiction between the water supply and demand of the urban ecological environment, this paper analyzed the characteristics of irrigation in gardens and green spaces. As a matter of fact, the irrigation methods of gardens and green spaces are very backward at present, and water is wasted universally. Therefore, some advanced methods are put forward, which includes adjusting the vegetation planting structure and develop the water-saving and drought-resistance type of green land. Meanwhile, the new advanced and available irrigation technologies should be developed, and the green land irrigation . conditions are also to be improved. To strengthen the multipurpose of city water resources and release the tension situation of the water demand in North cities, the planning, design and construction of irrigation system must be standardized strictly, and some new methods, such as to recycle wasted and polluted water, collect the rain during flood period to irrigation the green land, and so on, should be studied as soon as possible.
