CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLES AND BASIC PROGRAM FOR ANALYSIS AND DETERMINATION OF CARBONATE STRATUM TYPES

Depositional continuity of carbonate rocks, as a reflector of stability of their depositional environment, strongly affects karst development and thus karst morphology, and hydrogeological and engineering geological conditions. It might be taken as one of the indexes for classification of carbonate stratum types. In this paper, a classification, shown in the following table, is suggested according to the lithologic character and depositional continuity ( continuous depositional thickness ) of carbonate rock. When two or more types occur in one stratigraphic unit, it can be considered as a composite type. Besides, a BASIC program is given for stratigraphic analysis and determination of carbonate stratum types.
