TRANSFERING POLIMA CMS FROM B.NAPUS INTO B. CHINENSIS AND STERILITY EXPRESSION

Interspecific crosses between a polima CMS line of B. napus and varieties of B. campestris were made and hack-crossing was conducted to produce BC2F1. Twenty six inbreeding lines of B. chinesis were tested for their ability to maintain completely the male sterility or restore the fertility in the crosses with BC2F1. Four completely setrile progenies and two fertile ones were oberved in the test-crosses. The results indicated that the male sterility associated with polima cytoplasm could be used in breeding for hybrid cultivars of B. chinesis which could be used for both vegetable and oilseed.
