Study on the relatioship between water use efficiency and carbonisotope discrimination in drought condition

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of drought stress on water use efficiency(WUE) and carbon isotope discrimination () in different peanut varieties in pot culture with rainproof shelter. The stability of the correlation between WUE and was also investigated as well as the correlation between special leaf weight(SLW) under wellwatered and drought conditions. The results showed that: WUE and varied significantly in different genotypes in response to watering treatment, but the ranks of WUE and were similar under each treatment, indicating there was low genotypeenvironment interaction. Highly significant negative relationship between WUE and were observed under wellwatered and drought conditions (rck=-0.86, P0.05; rst=-0.84, P0.05). It is concluded that was an effective trait for selecting genotypes of peanut with improved WUE either in wellwatered or in drought condition.A strong negative relationship existed between and SLW (rck=-0.84,P0.05;rst=-0.83,P0.05) indicating that gen
