OBJECTIVE To study the anti-hypoxia and anti-oxidation effect of Potentilla anserina L. petroleum fraction and its mechanism in mice. METHODS The models of normobaric hypoxia, decompression hypoxia and specific myocardial hypoxia resulted from isoprenaline were developed. The anti-hypoxia effects and the anti-oxidative action of the petroleum fraction were investigated by spectrophotometry, respectively. RESULTS The petroleum fraction obviously prolonged the survival time of mice in normobaric hypoxia and decreased the oxygen consumption of the mice. The survival rate of mice of decompression hypoxia was increased. The fraction significantly inhibited the oxidative action of O~-·_2 on erythrocyte.CONCLUSION The Potentilla anserina L. petroleum fraction shows obvious anti-hypoxia and anti-oxidation effects, the effects may be related to its activity of inhibiting oxygen free radial.
