Effect of Shenfu injection on GLUT1 and GLUT3 after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of Shenfu injection on GLUT1 and GLUT3 after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats.METHODS middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAOR) models were produced by intraluminal suture technique.The infarct area of brain was measured by 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride(TTC) staining technique;semi-quantitative RT-PCR assay and Western blots were used to detect GLUT1 and GLUT3 mRNA and protein expression respectively.RESULTS Shenfu injection could significantly diminish the infarct areas of brain of MCAO in rats.Compared to those in sham operation group,GLUT1 and GLUT3 mRNA and protein were increased(P0.05) in IR group.There was a significant overexpression of GLUT1 and GLUT3 mRNA and protein in SFI groups as compared with in IR group(P0.05).CONCLUSION ShenFu injection has the protective effects on the brain injury induced by ischemia.Its mechanism may be correlated with the up regulation of GLUT1 and GLUT3.
