Experimental measurement of crack porosity in rocks

Generally, according to their shapes, void of rocks are d ivided into two kinds: pore and crack. The pore’s aspect ratio is large; its shape is spherical ap proxi mately. It has close relation with oil-gas accumulation in rocks. The pore poro s ity is the main factor to the rock porosity. The aspect ratio of crack is small; its shape is long and thin. Its porosity composed a small part of the whole roc k porosity. But the existence and variation of crack porosity in rocks has impor tant influence on anisotropy and S wave splitting of rocks. Using the different responses between the two shapes of void to hydrostatic pressure and the change of the hydrostatic pressure experiment, the crack porosity in roc ks is determined. The crack porosity and closed pressure obtained by the experim ent provided the basic data for understanding anisotropy of rocks, S wave splitt ing and crust dynamics.
