KONG Qingzhen, TIAN Donghui, ZENG Yong, et al. Radiology Department of No.466 Hospital of PLA, Beijing 100081, China
Objective To determine the feasibility and safety of embolization therapy in HCC accompanied by hepatic arterio venous shunts(AHVS). Methods 16 embolizations were performed in 11 patients. Angiography was done by superselective catheterization to all the feeding arteries of the tumor. Each shunt was blocked with gelfoam at first, followed by iodine oil. Results Marked AHVS was found in 9 patients all successfully embolized, no marked AHVS in 2 patients on angiography. Partial relief in 3 cases, minor reaction in 4 cases and no change in 4 cases. No respiratory system complication. Conclusion Embolization of HCC with AHVS is not an absolute contraindication . It is technically feasible and is safe to the patients.
