Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of thin-slice and multiplanar reformat (MPR)of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT)in adult intussusceptions. Methods Retrospectively,19 MSCT of patients with Adult Intussusception were included(include 1 misdiagnosis case). The images were analyzed by two radiologists in a consensus procedure.First, the diagnosis was made exclusively from transverse images;secondly, the transverse images were analyzed with knowledge of the MPRs.Diagnostic accuracy was given as percentage, and they were compared using the Chi-Square test(McNemar Test).Additional diagnostic values of MPR to the axial images were also evaluated,a five-point scale for judging diagnostic value was conducted, ranging from 1 =nondiagnostic to 5=high-diagnostic.Results Sixteen intussusceptions (16/19)and 12 primary affection (42/16)were detected on reviewing axial view only. There were no significant differences in the diagnostic accuracy compared between the axial images and MPRs in combination with axial images(P0.05).The scores of the two readers for the additional diagnostic value of MPR,supplementing of useful information to the axial images, were 3.42 and 3.58, respectively. Conclusions There was a high accuracy of MSCT to diagnose adult intussusceptions and detect the underlying lesions in thin-slice and MPR image.Additional diagnostic value to axial images could be obtained with MPR display.
