Relationship between cell hemorheology characteristic of erythrocyte and acute rejection after cardiac transplantation in rats

Objective To investigate the relationship between acute rejection after cardiac transplantation and Cell Hemorheology characteristic of erythrocyte of rats. Methods The allograft group consisted of Wistar donors into SD recipients. The grafts were harvested on post-operation days 1, 3, 5 and 7. The erythrocyte aggregation index (EAI) was measured by viscosity measurement, the erythrocyte deformability index (EDI) was measured by ektacytometry, and the erythrocyte electrophoresis time (EET) and pathologic examinations of the hearts were performed. Results The EAI of recipient increased significantly in allograft group compared with that in control ones from the first day after operation on (P0.001), while the EDI decreased evidently (P0.001). The peak of these was between the 3~5th day. There were no statistically difference in EET between groups A, B and C. Conclusion These results suggest that the changes of cell hemorheology characteristic of erythrocyte play important roles in the course of rejection prior to significant graft destruction.
