How to develop evidence-based medicine in China

QU Huiqi, ZHANG Jinzhong, QIU Mingcai. Department of Internal Medicine, General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin 300052, China
The idea of evidencebased medicine(EBM) is being followed with interest and accepted by increasingly more people in medical circles. Research on EBM with Chinese characteristics should be placed on the agenda of the development of the medical sciences in China. In the light of our countrys reality, work in developing EBM can be divided into 4 parts: generating research evidence; searching MEDLINE(or PUBMED) and synthesizing the evidence (systematic review); renewing clinical guidelines and spreading the information; and applying EBM in practice. The last section of the paper deals with problems that may be encountered in developing EBM in China and solutions to the problems.
