Nosocomial Infection Caused by Diabetes: Risk Factors and Prevention

OBJECTIVE To investigate the risk factors of nosocomial infection caused by diabetes, and improve its treatment and prevention. METHODS We had retrospectively analyzed the nosocomial infections and the risk factors of diabetes patients in recent 3 years. RESULTS The results showed that 61 of 296 (20.61%) diabetes patients had nosocomial infection. The main infection sites were respiratory tract and lungs (39.34%), secondly were urinary tract (29.51%). The main risk factors were: old ages (≥60 years), long duration of hospitalization, too high blood glucose, complications of diabetes, overusage of broad spectrum antibiotics, and so on. CONCLUSIONS The incidence of nosocomial infection of diabetes is high and the patient′s condition is serious. We must pay much attention to it.
