Preparation of Aluminum Hydroxide From Alum Sludge

For increasing the low value-added of alumina slurry in alum,aluminum hydroxide has been synthesized from the alunite mineral.Acid-melting and alkaline leaching methods were used to synthesis of Al(OH)3 materials,compared with the two different materials,both methods can prepare Al(OH)3.In addition,the bayerite [α-Al(OH)3] obtained by the acid-melting method while the boemhite(γ-AlOOH) obtained by the alkaline leaching method.The structure of the materials were characterized by using modern physical and chemical techniques,such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),Thermal analyses(TG-DTA) and Scanning electron micrograph(SEM).
