Effect of simulated acid rain on leaves and fruits of peach and pear.

This study was intended to obtain information about the effects of simulated acid rain on leaves and fruits of peach and pear The results are as follows ①The leaves treated with simulated acid rain with pH 3 5, 2 5 and 2 0 showed injury spots of various extent and reduction in chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate However, the treatment led to marked increase in cell membrane permeability There was significant negative correlation between relative electric conductivity and the pH value of simulated acid rain with the correlation coefficients of -0 846 6 * (for peach) and -0 856 0 *(for pear) ②Treatment with simulated acid rain also caused a reduction in fruit weight and overall quality, but not so significantly. The shortening of storage life is, however, remarkable ③The effects of simulated acid rain on peach and pear were essentially alike with the former being more sensitive
