Review and Outlook of the Development of Quality Rice in Hunan

The development of quality rice in Hunan Province has undergone three stages of initiation, stagnation and sustainable development. A group of new rice varieties (combinations) with fine grain quality have been developed; a set of technical system of production has been established; small and medium size processing mechinary has been manufactured; and the way for industrialization has been explored with the brands of rice such as ″Xiu Long″ and ″Jin Jian″ made famous. However, the contradictions like the hindered administrative system are faced to the development of quality rice. The measures taken to vigorously develop the industrialization of quality rice were also discussed.
