SSR Marker-based Genetic Diversity of 24 Cytoplasmic Male Sterile Lines in Rice

The SSR analysis was conducted on the genetic diversity of 24 major cytoplasmic male sterile(CMS) lines of hybrid rice that were newly developed or widely used in production in Sichuan and some other provinces.Out of 135 random primers used in this study,34 displayed well in polymorphism.On the 34 SSR loci,a total of 77 allelic loci were detected.Every primer pairs offered 2.26 allelic loci on average.The value of allelic polymorphism information content(PIC) ranged from 0.08 to 0.559,on an average of 0.254.The cluster analysis was conducted and a dendrogram of the tested 24 CMS lines was constructed by UPMGA based on the genetic similarity coefficients determined by SSR analysis.The results showed that the genetic diversity was relatively poor among the existing CMS lines,which is not favorable to make full use of rice heterosis.
