Zhang Pei-yu
The ancient eclipses records are the most useful data to research the historical secular changes in the rotation of the earth. This paper discusses and analyses the ancient Chiness solar eclipse records (before the end of Ming Dynasty) in the literature. It points out that the data after Western Han are on the whole system-complete, many of that are the observational records in the capital. It's a pity that the ancient observers did not pay attention to the accurate moments of the celestial phenomena. The author selects thirteen total (annular) solar eclipse records with explicit places of observation from these data and probes into the tendency of the secular changes in the rotation of the earth.
