The Effects of Spanwise Deformation and Closeness to the Ground on the Swimming of Waving Plates

Based on the unsteady incompressible potential flow theory, the swimming performance of the caudal fin is further studied. The effect of spanwise deformation of a caudal fin with moderate to large aspect ratio on its chordwise undulation propulsion, and the effect of closeness to the ground on the swimming performance of some bottom-living fishes are examined in this paper.
