Study on fluoroquinolones by triple quadrupole mass spectrometer

A quasi-MS/MS/MS method was applied to investigate the fragmentation mechanism of nine fluoroquinolones which were analyzed using electrospray mass spectrometry by collision induced dissociation.The analytes were infused into the ion source with a syring pump and the mass spectrometry operated in positive mode.Comparing ESI-fragmentation process of these nine fluoroquinolones,we discovered them common occurrence of losing CO2,H2O,HF and CO except nadifloxacin and balofloxacin(without piperazidine substituent).The lytic pathway was decarboxylization and piperazine-link rearrangement and they were their main fragment ions.
