Electron microscopic scanning on pollen-morphology characters of Camellia oleifera superior clones

Morphological and Ultra-structure characters of pollen collected from 10 superior clones of Camellia oleifera were observed by means of SEM.The results showed that: there were significant differences among the superior clones.Generally,the pollen were prolate,elongated-elliptical in equatorial view and trilete round in polar view,by 40.02~55.30μm×24.36~33.49μm in size with aperture 3-colpate.However each clone's pollen had unique features in size,exine sculpture,which would be one of the important index for identification of clones.Traits of pollens from the tested clones were similar with that of the pollen from some species of section.camellia in shape,size,outer wall sculpture,which means that the two species has close relationship.However,the pollen morphology was quite different from the section paracamellia.To some extend,sterile pollen can be showed and the sterile rates are different among the clones.The sterile pollen showed wizened and of abnormity in shape.
