STUDIES ON THE INCREASE OF GRAIN WEIGHT IN SPRING WHEAT

Studies were carried out during 1975-78 and 1980-84. The results indicated that the increasing dynamic patterns were different between grain volume and grain dry weight. The increase of grain volume was a parabolical curve follo wing the equation Y=a+bx+cx~2 The increasing curve of grain weight was sigmoid and the growth function Y=c/(1+e~(a-bx)) was used in the analysis. Analysis relults showed that grain weight increased rapidly(?)g the period of 10 to 20 days with the peak by 20 to 25 days after a., (?)sis as compared with grain volume which increased significantly 5 to 10 day(?) post-anthesis. There were significant correlations between the maximum volume and final volume of grain. This results showed that the capacity of sink markedly influenced grain weight.Among different cultivars, there was significant positive correlation between grain filling intensity and grain weight, but no significant relationships between grain tilling duration and grain weight were found.Both LA of flowering and photosynthetic potential after anthesis have significant influence on final grain weight and grain yield.
