CONTENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF TRACE ELEMENTS IN THE SOILS OF SHANDONG PROVINCE

Soils in Shandong were found to be deficient in available Zn (0.5ppm), B(0.5ppm), Mn(10ppm) making up 63.7%, 65.4% and 48.4% of the total respectively, and rich in available Cu, and contained moderate available Fe. The available B and Cu increased from Southeast to Northwest Shandong with the Yellow River as a clear dividing line. However, the available Fe and Mn content showed opposite trend with the Jiaolai and Shuhe River as the dividing line. Available Zn content in the soils of hilly region was higher than that of lowland and plain areas.These trace elements in different soil types showed skew distribution which could be exactly described with median, upper and lower limits or average deviation.Brown earth belonged to low B and high Fe and Mn group;cinnamon soil and Shajiang black soil,low Zn and B; fluvo-aquic soil low Zn, Mn and high Cu; saline soil low Zn and high B and Cu; aeolian soil low Zn, B and Mn, paddy soil low Zn and B, and high Cu, Fe and Mn group. Cluster analysis showed that the soil classification of Shandong was applicable to the study of content and distribution of soil trace elements and application of these elements. The vertical distribution of soil available Zn and B decreased with the depth except that of easily reducible Mn.
