Abstract We report 28 cases of the functional delayed gastric emptying syndrome after subtotal gastrectomy in this paper. The primary operations were Billroth Ⅱ gastrectomy in 17 patients, Billroth Ⅰgastrectomy in 10, and one case underwent gastrojejunostomy of pancreatoduodenectomy.Among these cases, 26 cases(94%)were cured by non-operative treatment. However the other two cases were not remitted by reoperation(one underwent gastrojejunostomy, another jejunojejunostomy). The results suggest that this syndrom is the changes of remanent gastric function, so non-operative management is the best choice of treatment, surgery is not suitable for the patient. In this paper, the cause, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of this syndrome are discussed.
