An experimental study on the mitochondria SDH and CCO before and after biliary drainage of obstructive jaundice

To detect the recovery of activities of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and cytochrome oxydase (CCO) after relief of biliary obstruction, a model of obstructive jaundice was produced on dogs by common bile duct ligation, then biliary drainage was performed by choledochoduodenostomy. The results showed that the activities of SDH and CCO were suppressed significantly by bile duct ligation. The recovery was related to the time of obstruction and decompression. The results indicate that early relief of the obstruction could be favou rable to the recovery of suppressed respiration of liver mitochondria.
