MONITORING AND EVALUATION INFORMATION SYSTEM OF MAJOR NATURAL DISASTERS IN CHINA

The information system for monitoring and evaluating major natural disasters using remote sensing and GIS techniques has been established in China during 1991~1995 which include 7 types of natural disasters:flood,forest fire,drought,snow disaster,earthquake,desertification and pine moth disaster. Researches and applications presented in this paper are as followings: (a) Establish historical data base and background data base for disasters. (b) Research on zonation of major natural disasters and regionalization of risk. (c) Set up monitoring and evaluation system for single disaster (based on PC and workstation computers). (d) Set up integrated system for multi disater monitoring and assessment. (e) Establish emergency system for flood,forest fire,earthquake,and etc.. (f) Use these techniques and systems to monitor and evaluate flood,drought,forest fire,and other disasters.
