Limitation and Possibility of Narration——The Real Life of Sebastian Knight and Screaming Fragments

Nabokov s The Real Life of Sebastian Knight and Mo Bai s Screaming Fragments can both be classified as postmodernist metafiction: they disintegrate the reliability of narrative in the process of self-reference and dismantlement, and reveal the constructive nature of history and reality. However, they do not negate the significance of narration and fall into the morass of agnosticism. Instead, they affirm the narrative with great subtlety when question it: although narrative has its limitations and cantabsolutely copy history and reality, it still opens up another possibility for us to help reach the clarity of existence.
