Chitosan Adsorption Process for Treatment of Fluoride Pollution in Groundwater

Excessive fluoride in drinking water will be harmful to human health,which causes dental fluorosis,fluoride bone disease,etc.In China,fluorine pollution distributes mainly in northeast,north,northwest regions,and concentration of fluoride in parts of China is more than 5 mg/L.However,the maximum allowable concentration is 1.0 mg/L in GB 5749—2006.In this paper on the basis of investigation of several up-to-date researches regarding fluoride adsorption using chitosan,mechanism of adsorption,approaches of improvement and impact of correlated factors were summarized.Suggestions were presented for further enhancement in fluoride removal.
