Wide-spectrum Synergy of Recombinant Enhancin from Insect Baculovirus Expressed in Escherichia coli

A 2.5kb fragment of enhancin gene from Trichoplusia ni granulovirus was inserted into vector pQE-31 and expressed successfully in Escherichia coli M15 (pREP4) in the previous study. A series of bioassays were conducted to characterize the wide-spectrum synergy of the expression product named as P96 in this paper. After combination of P96, mortalities caused by Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus (HaNPV), Bacillus thuringiensis and avermectin, against the larvae of H.armigera were increased significantly by 169.78 %, 73.90% and 36.04%, respectively. P96 was also shown to increase the susceptibility of Spodoptera exigua to Autographa californica NPV. Cumulative corrected mortality caused by P96 dissolved in Na 2CO 3 solution to the 1st instar larvae of H.armigera was 15.91% on the 5th day after treated. As a wide-spectrum synergist, P96 may therefore play an important role in integrated pests management.
