Damage of endotoxin and tumour necrosis factor alpha to lung in experimental peritonitis

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of endotoxin and tumour necrosis factor alpha to lung in experimental peritonitis. MethodsAcute peritonitis model was produced by intraperitoneal injection of Escherichia coli O111B4 in SD rats, 2 days later, the levels of endotoxin and tumour necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α) in peripheral blood were measured, the levels of malondialdehyde(MDA) and glutathione(GSH) in lung homogenate were also measured. the levels of leukocyte and protein in bronchial alveolar lavage liquid were measured. Resultsthe levels of endotoxin, TNF-α, leukocyte and MOD were all signifificantly higher than control group, while, the level of glutathione(GSH) was much lower in experimental group(P0.01).ConclusionEndotoxin, lipoperoxides and TNF-αmay play roles in lung damage in experimental peritonitis.
