Research Status and Application of Aluminum Titanate Ceramics

With low thermal expansion coefficient,high melting point(1860°C) and excellent thermal shock resistance,aluminium titanate(Al2TiO5) ceramic has been considered as one of the most promising candidate materials for low-pressure die-cast lift tubes and insulating components in automotive engines,such as manifolds and piston heads,which require high thermal insulation and thermal shock resistance.But its relatively low strength and susceptibility to decomposition in a definite temperature range restrict its extensive application.This paper mainly introduces the researches that have been done on the composition,particle size,additives,and sintering temperature of aluminium titanate ceramics for the improvement of their properties.The applications of AT ceramics have also been presented.
