Decomposing the Decoupling Indicator Between Industrial Economic Growth and Carbon Emission for Low-carbon Pilot City——A Case of Zhenjiang City

Based on the decoupling theory of Tapio and the LMDI decomposition technique,the decoupling factor decomposition model was constructed,and the decoupling trend of industrial sector and 6 major sub-sectors in Zhenjiang were analyzed. The results indicated that the amount of industrial carbon emissions showed an increasing trend and the structure did not display a significant change during 2002-2015. The decoupling effect between industrial carbon emissions and economic growth showed remarkable periodical characteristics,embodied as weak-strong-weak-strong evolution trend. Additionally,economic scale and economic structure were the main the factors of inhibiting and promoting decoupling effect. The decoupling trends and decoupling factors of the 6 major sub-sectors had both similarities and differences. For instance,the chemical industry and non-metallic mineral manufacturing industry showed similar decoupling trends and had the best decoupling status. Additionally,economic scale effect was the common the decoupling inhibiting factor of the 6 sub-sectors. Based on the empirical conclusions,this paper made some policy recommendations on the low-carbon transformation of Zhenjiang's industry.
