STUDIES ON PEANUT WEB BLOTCH DISEASE IN CHINA

Xu Xiujuan Cui Fenggao Shi Yanmao Xu Mingxian Bi Guojin (Institute of Shandong Peanut Research, Laixi)  
Peanut web blotch ( Phoma arachidicola ) is a kind of newly occurent foliar disease on peanut in China. It spreads quickly and has caused severe damage in recent years. Through a ten-year systematic study in 1983 - 1992, the symptoms of the disease, the pattern of its sympton, occurrence, damage and distribution were ascertained and the correlation between occurence of the disease and main ecological factors was revealed. The causal organism was identified for the first time in China. Furthermore, the functional relation between the disease severity and peanut pod losses as well as the sensitive phenological phase were found out. An economic threshold value model for protection was established, the rational protection norm was proposed; the most effective fungicide , biological product and physical protector as well as the resistant cultivars had been screened out, a new integrated management method mainly involving control of the primary and the secondary infection sources was sugested. The results of three year application in 253 thousand ha in three provinces/cities showed that the average control effect was up to 75%, and the direct economic effect amounted to 122 million yuan with good ecological and social benefits.
