Evaluation of p-hydroxybenzoate preservatives' s antibacterial effect

Objective To study the antibacterial effect of p- hydroxybenzoate preservatives,and the resistance of the strains isolated from cosmetics. Methods Using the method of minimum inhibitory concentration( MIC),the effect of p- hydroxybenzoate preservatives on Pseudomonas aeruginosa( ATCC9027),Staphylococcus aureus( ATCC6538),E. coli( ATCC8739)and the strains isolated in cosmetics was detected. Results The four preservatives,p- hydroxybenzoate methyl,p- hydroxybenzoate ethyl,p- hydroxybenzoate propyl and p- hydroxybenzoate butyl,can inhibit the tested strains effectively in the maximum permissible dose regulated in"Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics". Conclusion p- hydroxybenzoate preservatives has effectively antibacterial effect,but the resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli separated from cosmetics for p- hydroxybenzoate preservatives enhanced compared with standard strains.
