Effects of Boron-Deficiency and Low Temperature on Some Physiological Responses of Cucumber Seedlings

Sohion culture was conduct-ed to study the effects of boron deficiencyand low temperabe on some physiologi-cal responses of cucuInber (lersatbo L. cv. Zhongnng No. 1101 )seedlings. The results showed that underthe boron-deficient condition the growthof seeunng was inhibited (Fig. l), theleakage of K+ fiDm Plasma mernbrane ofleaf cells was enhanced (Fig. 2 ), andthe cell inner stmcture was darnaged(Plate l). AN of these changs weremore pronouned at low temperabe.Furthermore, the contents of sucrose andreducing sugar in primp leaves were al-so accuinulated (Fig. 3) - The resultsdemonstrated that boron plays an impor-tant role in drintalning the integrity ofplasrna membrans of leaves and alleviat-ing the damag of membran caused bylow temperato.
