Phenotypic Diversity of Lentil(Lens culinaris Medik.) Germplasm Resources

A subcollection of 481 lentil germplasm resources,which makes up 57.6% of the total lentil collection in the National Gene Bank,was employed for phenotypic diversity analysis using 14 agronomic traits.High level of diversity was detected,with an average variation of 8.79 and an average Shannon-weaver index(I) of 1.8149 based on morphological traits.The results indicated significant difference among the 16 groups of lentil Germplasm resources in phenotypic traits from diversed geographic origins.The highest I value(1.683) appeared within ICARDA accessions,followed by Shanxi accessions(I=1.573).Further survey,conservation and study should be made for the lentil genetic resources in northwestern China,where existed the highest genetic diversity level.Population structure within the subcollection of 481 individuals has been defined,and 6 clusters were identified based on various phenotypic variations by using Structure 2.2 software.
