Determination of urinary iodine and evaluation of iodine nutrition of kindergarten children aged 3~6 in urban areas of Zhangjiakou

[Objective] To investigate the state of iodine nutrition of kindergarten children aged 3~6 in urban areas of Zhangjiakou. [Methods] 140 children from four kindergartens were selected by the combination of cluster, stratified and random sampling. The urinary iodine was examined by using their morning urine. [Results] Median urinary iodine was 172.0 μg/L. The proportion that the concentration of urinary iodine was lower than 50 μg/L took 0%. The proportion that the concentration of urinary iodine was lower than 100 μg/L took 7.6%. [Conclusion] The iodine state of urban kindergarten children aged 3~6 in Zhangjiakou was in an appropriate degree.
