Sintering Process and Mechanical Properties of 90W-NiAlFe Alloy

A new tungsten alloy for penetrator with NiAlFe alloy binder was designed and studied using powder metallurgy route in order to improve "self-sharpening" performance of penetrator into armor.After dynamic and quasi-static mechanical properties were tested,results showed that the 90W-NiAlFe composite reached the basic mechanical properties which are required in penetrator were with tensile strength of 690 MPa and ductility of 8% elongation.Apparently adiabatic shear band was observed in the direction of the most shearing stress under the strain of about 0.34 and strain rate of about 4139 s-1.
