Preparation Technique of High Purity Cobalt

There were many methods for preparing cobalt metal of 99.999% purity,such as extraction,membrane separation,ion exchange,electrolysis,zone melting etc.But a single purification method was more difficult to achieve high purity cobalt.With 20% P507 sulfonated kerosene organic phase single-stage extraction purification of cobalt,the content of Ni in cobalt was 0.4%.After purification,the content of Ni in cobalt was 0.003%~0.004%.This method could not meet the requirement of 99.999% purity.Complexing agent Dmege of 1.8% was added to raw Co material to prepare the Co complex solution.Its amount matched the Ni amount in raw Co material.With the same conditions and extraction agent,the Ni content reduced to less than 0.002%,once complex extraction metal cobalt in the first complex extraction.While the Ni content could be reduced to 0.001% in the second complex extraction.Other metal impurities were under the detection limit.With twice complex-extraction-electrowinning process,high purity of 99.9999% Co metal could be prepared with commercially cobalt material and normal analytical pure reagents.The single-stage extraction process had the advantages of short flow path,simple operation,easy control,high recovery rate of cobalt,and low operating and production costs.It was easy to be industrialized.
