ZrB_2 powder was prepared by carbon thermal reduction reaction using ZrO_2,H_3BO_3 and C as raw materials. The phase structure of powder was measured by X-ray diffraction(XRD),the morphology of powder was observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM),the composition of powder was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and the particle size and specific surface area of powder were analyzed. The effects of B powder,ZrB_2 seed and NaCl as additives on the particle size and morphology of ZrB_2 powder were studied. The results revealed that adding proper amount of B powder could increase the conversion rate of ZrB_2 and reduce the particle size, and fine ZrB_2 particles were obtained. When the addition amount of B powder was 5%(mass fraction),the average particle size of powder was the minimum of 4.8 μm.With the increase of ZrB_2 seed content, the average particle size of ZrB_2 powder increased, and the specific surface area decreased. The morphology of particles tended to be irregular, and the phenomena of coupling and aggregation were more serious. When the content of ZrB_2 seed reached 15%(mass fraction),the average particle size of powder was the maximum of 7.3 μm.Under the action of NaCl,ZrB_2 particles grew along a certain direction obviously, and the particle size increased significantly, the morphology of particles was long strip. With the increase of NaCl content, the particles grew coarser. When the NaCl content was 15 %(mass fraction),the average particle size of powder increased to 9.1 μm.
