LOFEXIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE ——A NEW ANTI OPIATE WITHDRAWAL AGENT

Lofexidine, a clonidine analogue, is a non opioid agent used to relieve the withdrawal symptoms of opiate dependence. Compared with clonidine, lofexidine has similar efficacy in suppressing opiate withdrawal. It has been reported with fewer side effects, especially with less hypotensive and oversedative effects, which make it more desirable, safe and more suitable for outpatient detoxification.
