Protective Effects of Volatile Oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott and β - Asarone on Cardiovascular System

Objective To study the protective effects of volatile oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott and β - asarone on cardiovascular system. Methods The rat models of atherosclerosis and hyperviscocity as well as acute myocardial ischemia were established. The effects of volatile oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott and β - asarone were observed on the blood lipid level and the atherosclerotic degree in atherosclerosis rats, hemorheology in hyperviscocity rats and endothelin (ET) level, nitric- oxide (NO) level and myocardial damage in rats with isoproterenol- induced myocardial ischemia. Results Volatile oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott and β - asarone could singnificantly decrease the levels of cholesterol and low- density lipoprotein cholesterol and the degree of atherosclerotic lesion in atherosclerosis rats, improve the hemorheology in hyperviscocity rats, and decrease ET level, increase NO level and reduce myocardial damage and infarction rate in rats with myocardial ischemia. Conclusion Volatile oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott and β - asarone have certain protective effects on cardiovascular system.
