The antagonism of five kinds
of vasodilators against the vasoconstriction induced byphenylephrine and barium chloride was
studied. The results showed that the action ofbreviscapin (Bre) was similar to that of
trifluoperazine (TFP), chiefly inhibiting therelease of intracellular calcium. In the experiment of
eliminating vascular endothelium,it was found that the vasodilating action of Bre was
independent of the integrity ofvascular endothelium, which was similar to that of TFP,
cinnarizine and nifedipine, andthe dose-response curve of Bre was paralled to that to TFP.
However, Bre did notantagonize the vasoconstriction induced by 5-HT, and TFP also elicited no
antagonismin low dosage but markedly shifted the dose-response curve to the right in high
dosage. It is indicated that the mechanism of Bre is probably related to the antagonism
againstcalmodulin .
