Drosophila melangogaster longevity test for Astragalus membranaceus

Objective:To detect the effects of Astragalus membranaceus on delaying the process of aging of Drosophila melangogaster.Methods:Newly enclosed flies within 8 hours were collected and separated them by sex,and each sex was divided randomly into 6 groups,including 5 different Astragalus membranaceus concentrations and one control group,each containing 20 flies.They were serially transferred to vials with fresh medium every 4 days.The numbers of dead and surviving flies were counted every 2 days until all flies died.Results:It was shown that mean life spans of 1.667mg/ml,3.333mg/ml,5.001mg/ml and 6.668mg/ml group flies were statistically longer than that of control group flies.Conclusion:The results show that Astragalus membranaceus has an effect on delaying the process of aging of Drosophila melangogaster.
