Effects of gypensides on lymphocyte proliferation and interleukin-2 production in spleen of mice

Li Lin*, Xing Shantian (Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Beijing 100850)
3H-TdR incorporation into splenocytes and IL-2 dependent cell line CTLL- 2 were used to investigate the effect of gypensides (GP) on immune functions in LACA strain mice. It was shown that GP (10~30 mg/kg sc for 7 days) enhanced splenic T lymphocyte proliferation induced by Con A and B lymphocyte proliferation induced by LPS, and increased IL-2 production of splenocytes,in both normal mice and immunosuppres-sed mice caused by cyclophosphamide. The restorative or stimulatory effect of GP in the immunosuppressed mice was more marked than that in normal mice.It is suggested that GP may act as an effective immunopotentiator.
