Nucleolar Organizer Regions associated proteins from peripheral T lymphocytes as a parameter of diagnosis and prognosis of malignant carcinoma patients

CHEN Qiaolun LIANG Yiren HE Lirong,et al.(Cancer Center, Sun Yat Sen University of Medical Sciences, Guangzhou, 510060)
Objective To study the valuation of Nucleolar Organizer Regions associated proteins(Ag NORs) in peripheral T lymphocytes of malignant carcinoma patients. Methods Ag NORs was detected by KL cell image analysis system in 66 cases of normal volunteer, 25 cases of benign tumor patients and 122 cases of malignant carcinoma patients. Results (1) A lower Ag NORs area /nuclear area ratio (Ag NORs I /S%) in peripheral T lymphocytes was found in malignant carcinoma patients than that in benign tumor patients and the normal control. There was showing the statistically significant difference among the groups of normal control, benign tumor and malignant carcinoma ( P 0.05). (2) The groups of normal control and benign tumor also showed the significant difference with groups of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), esophagus carcinoma, breast carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma ( P 0.05); the positive rates of these malignant carcinomas were: 62.86%, 71.43%, 66.67%, 70.00% respectively. (3)The value of Ag NOR S were observed in 67 cases of NPC patients with radiotherapy. It showed that the average values during therapy and at end were 4.38±1.16 and 4.16±1.27 respectivaly, which were lower than that of pretherapy (5.55±1.20); but the value increased 1year after. (4) 28 cases of esophagus carcinoma patients were observed in three stage of therapy: pre surgery, seven days after surgery and a month after surgery. We found there was no significant difference in these three groups( P 0.05).Conclusion The percentage of Ag NORs I /S% in T lymphocytes could give the important information in tumor diagnosis and prognosis.
