Canonical correlation analysis between nitrate and nitrite content and some quality traits in flue-cured tobacco leaf

By using the method of canonical correlation, the relationship was analyzed between nitrate and nitrite content and some quality traits of flue-cured tobacco leaf in Hu′nan tobacco-growing areas. The results indicated that the first canonical correlation coefficient of content of nitrate and nitrite was significant at 1% level with content of nicotine and total N. The correlation information of the first canonical correlation coefficient accounted for 75.41%~86.92% of the total, and was mainly caused by the correlation between nitrate content and nicotine and total N. Similarly, the first canonical correlation coefficient of content of nitrate and nitrite was significant at 1% level with content of reducing sugar, total sugar and petroleum ether extract. The infor-mation of the first canonical correlation coefficient accounted for 77.16%~92.04% of the total, and was mainly caused by the correlation between content of nitrate and reducing sugar and total sugar. The canonical correlation coefficient of content of nitrate and nitrite was not significant at 5% level with content of 11 kinds of nutrition elements in flue-cured tobacco leaf.
