Application of Yttrium Alloying in Magnesium Alloy

Recent years,rare earth elements have got more and more attention because they have important effects on the room temperature and elevated temperature mechanical properties,forming ability and corrosion resistance,etc.The small amount of yttrium addition not only can refine microstructures,increase the room temperature and elevated temperature strength of magnesium alloy,but also can improve creep property,corrosion resistance and cast-ability.In this paper,the effects of Y on the properties of magnesium alloy have been presented systematically,and the development prospect of magnesium alloys containing Y is described.
