Research on failure mechanism of frame-core tube structure with shear-yielding-outrigger strengthened storey

A new concept of shear-yielding-outrigger strengthened storey is proposed in this paper.By employing active link of eccentrically braced frame,the proposed strengthened storey intends to alleviate the abrupt changes in stiffness and stress concentration as well as to improve failure mechanism under major earthquake of ordinary frame-core tube-outrigger structure.Elastic dynamic response with respect to frame-core tube structure with shear-yielding and ordinary outrigger strengthened storey under wind load and frequent earthquake are studied.That is followed by the investigation of the distribution of plastic hinges and cracks on the shear wall under major earthquake.Conclusion is drawn that frame-core tube structure with shear-yielding-outrigger strengthened storey is superior to ordinary outrigger strengthened storey in drift control and failure mechanism under elasto-plastic stage,in spite of having the contiguous lateral stiffness under elastic stage.
